Art

At Grace Christian School we are dedicated to creating a Fine Arts Program for children, not just an Arts and Crafts class. Instruction focuses on Fine Art mediums and Art History. Elementary students learn about famous artists, movements in art, and art principles. Advanced Art for Middle School and High School concentrates on various studio mediums including: drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, and ceramics.

Printmaking

Students carve linoleum blocks to create an image. Then they apply ink to the surface and hand press their print onto paper. Students create both black and white and color prints.

Painting

Students choose to paint with either acrylic or watercolors. Class covers how to properly mix and apply paint to canvas/paper and basics of painting. More advanced techniques include photo transfers to their canvas to be incorporated with their paintings.

Photography

Focuses on Black and White and Color film photography. Students have the opportunity to develop their own black and white film negatives in class. They learn about composition, how a camera works, as well as alternative processes such as transferring a photo to a piece of Plexiglas.

Drawing

Students learn how to draw using charcoal and pencil. This includes still life, portraits, and basic composition.

Ceramics (Pottery)

Students created their own clay pieces by using two methods of construction: coil and slab. In coil construction the students make coils of clay, stack them to create their piece, and finally smooth out the piece before it dries. With slab building, the students roll out pieces of clay and piece them together, as if building a box.

ArtCompetitions

Advanced Art students competed in the Florida Association of Christian Colleges and Schools (FACCS) State Fine Arts Competition. They received the following Awards:

3^rd in Mixed Media - 2007
